LHC collaboration with The Next Festival for Emerging Artists

Overworked? Stressed about global uncertainty? In need of a short distraction? Take five and listen to this interview and the glorious music of Yvette Young.

This past spring Lizanne Hart Consulting had the good fortune to work with Peter Askim of The Next Festival of Emerging Artists on its 10th anniversary celebration. Over the past decade, Next Fest has transformed the pay-to-play model common on the music festival circuit, which prohibits many talented young musicians from accessing opportunities to build their professional careers. Instead, Peter had the brilliant idea to create a new model by subsidizing young artists for a 10-day experience that would allow them to not only perform but to participate in workshops where they would learn lessons about how to pursue a professional music career -- the very practical lessons not taught in school.

As part of the experience, Next Fest commissions works by professional musicians, such as Yvette, that the fellows perform at concert halls in New York City and upstate. This year, Yvette composed three delightful, hopeful, beautiful pieces for strings and guitars and then performed with the fellows. The result is magical and healing. Take a listen.
